Do it Yourself?
You might be wondering if Mirrormate frames are a do it yourself project or if you need a professional installation.
When our first frame order came, I decided to give it a try. I wanted to know just how easy they are to assemble. The Mirrormate website promotes them as a ‘diy” project
I opened the box and was very impressed with the quality. The corners are all pre-mitered and they do a great job with the cuts. They all fit together perfectly.
Against my instincts, I decided to glance over the instructions. I needed to add glue to each edge before I put the corners together, then use the little plastic connectors to join them. I believe it said not to use a hammer – so I used a hammer.
The plastic corners fit nicely and with a gentle tap of the hammer the two corner pieces went right in. I finished the glue and all four corners in about 10 minutes. I couldn’t believe how easy they went together. The second one went even faster, about 4 minutes.
It turns out this part, building the frame, is easy. Most reasonably handy people could put the frames together.
Where it gets tricky!
The Frame is built, now what? The final step of applying the frame to the mirror is where it gets a little bit trickier, and best left to the professionals. Once you stick it, there is no moving it. Crooked frames are not one of our favorite design trends. Large, awkward to handle frames, are best left to the professionals. Installing larger frames is always a two person job. Our crews have the process down to science. Please visit our showroom to see all the choices in frames.

Green Mirror was used to frame this oversize wall mirror in a dramatic way. The green mirror frame was cut to 12″ wide. The corners of the mirror were handcut in a perfect 45 degree mitre. Additional seams were added for interest. The final detail was in the edge work of the green mirror. In lieu of a traditional bevel, the edges of the mirror were polished with a chamfer edge, or known as a micro bevel.
